Everything homeowners and teen workers need to know about Lawn Teens.

For Homeowners

How does Lawn Teens work?+

Post your lawn care job in minutes — describe what you need, your address, and your budget. Local teen workers in your area will see the job and reach out to schedule. You pay securely through the app after the work is done.

Are the teens vetted?+

Yes. Every worker goes through an application review before they can claim jobs. We verify their age, collect parental consent for workers under 18, and review their profile. Workers who receive complaints are flagged for admin review.

What services are available?+

Lawn mowing, edging, leaf blowing, weeding, hedge trimming, mulching, garden cleanup, snow shoveling, and general yard cleanup. More services are added as our worker base grows.

How is pricing determined?+

Workers set their own quotes based on your job description. You can review the proposal before accepting — there's no obligation until you agree to a price.

What if I'm not happy with the work?+

Contact us through the app. We review all disputes and can withhold or refund payment if the work wasn't completed as agreed. You can also leave a review to help other homeowners.

Is my payment secure?+

Yes. All payments go through Stripe, the same payment processor used by Amazon and Shopify. Your card details are never stored on our servers.

For Teen Workers

How old do I need to be?+

You must be between 16 and 21 years old. Workers under 18 need a parent or guardian to complete a consent form during signup — this is required before you can start claiming jobs.

Do I need my own equipment?+

For most jobs, yes — you'll need a mower, trimmer, or whatever the job calls for. You can list the equipment you own on your profile so customers know what you can handle. Some customers have equipment they're happy to let you use — that's something to work out directly.

Do I need to form an LLC or business?+

No. You work as an independent contractor — just like a DoorDash driver. You don't need a business license, LLC, or any special registration to get started. All you need is a bank account to receive payouts.

How and when do I get paid?+

Once you complete a job and the customer confirms, payment is released to your Stripe account. You'll need to connect a bank account through Stripe during onboarding. Transfers typically arrive within 2 business days.

Do I have to pay taxes on what I earn?+

Yes — as an independent contractor, you're responsible for your own taxes. The IRS requires you to report all income. If you earn over $600 in a year, Stripe will send you a 1099-K form automatically. A good rule of thumb: set aside about 25–30% of each payment for taxes. We recommend asking a parent or tax professional for help filing.

How does the 10% platform fee work?+

Lawn Teens takes a 10% fee from each job to cover payment processing, the platform, and customer support. If a customer pays $100, you receive $90. This is shown clearly before you accept any job.

Can I set my own schedule?+

Completely. You choose which jobs to claim and when to work. There are no minimum hours, no shifts, and no boss. You work when you want.

What if a customer doesn't pay or disputes the job?+

We have a dispute resolution process. If you completed the work as agreed, we'll review the situation and advocate for your payment. Always take before and after photos — it's the best protection you have.

Getting Paid (Stripe Setup)

How do I get paid?+

Lawn Teens pays you through Stripe, a secure payment company used by millions of businesses. Before your first payout, you'll complete a quick one-time Stripe setup in the Earnings tab that connects your bank account. After each completed job, you keep 90% of the price (Lawn Teens takes a 10% platform fee), and you can cash out to your bank anytime.

Why is Stripe asking for so much information?+

To pay you real money, Stripe (not Lawn Teens) is legally required to verify your identity and set up your bank account — this is standard for any app that pays people, and it protects you from fraud. Lawn Teens never sees your bank details or Social Security number; Stripe handles all of it securely. You only do this once.

It asks about my "business" — I'm just a teen mowing lawns. What do I pick?+

Choose "Individual" (sometimes shown as "Individual / Sole Proprietor"), NOT "Company" or "Business." You're working for yourself as an individual, not a registered company. For the industry or business type, pick "Landscaping Services" if it's listed, or "Other services." For a business website you can enter lawnteens.com. For a product description, something like "Lawn care and yard work for local homeowners" is perfect.

What information do I need to have ready?+

Your legal full name, date of birth, home address, the last 4 digits of your Social Security number (Stripe may occasionally ask for the full number to verify identity), and your bank account's routing number and account number. Have these handy before you start and it takes about 5 minutes.

I'm under 18 — how does this work?+

Per our Terms, if you're under 18 a parent or guardian owns the account and the payout bank account must be theirs. When you reach the Stripe setup, have your parent or guardian complete it with THEIR information and THEIR bank account. All your earnings then go to that parent-controlled account.

Where do I find the routing and account numbers?+

They're on a check, or in your bank's app/website under account details (often labeled "Direct deposit info" or "Account & routing numbers"). The routing number is 9 digits; the account number is usually 8–12 digits. If you're under 18, use your parent/guardian's account info.

Is my banking information safe?+

Yes. Everything you enter goes directly to Stripe over an encrypted connection — Lawn Teens never receives or stores your bank account or SSN. Stripe is PCI-certified and used by companies like DoorDash, Instacart, and Shopify to pay millions of workers.

How long until the money reaches my bank?+

Once you tap "Cash Out," payouts typically arrive in your bank account within 1–2 business days. You can see your available balance and payout history any time in the Earnings tab.

I finished Stripe setup but Cash Out still won't work — why?+

A couple of common reasons: (1) Stripe may still be verifying your details (this can take a few minutes to a day) — the Earnings tab will show "setup incomplete" until it's done. (2) You can only cash out your available balance, which comes from completed and paid jobs. If it says "insufficient funds," you don't yet have enough paid earnings to withdraw. Reach out to support@lawnteens.com if it's stuck.

App Features

Is there a mobile app and a website?+

Both. Lawn Teens works as a full website and a native iOS app, and your account, jobs, messages, and payments stay in sync across the two — post a job on the web and track it from your phone. The iOS app adds push notifications, so you're alerted the moment a worker claims your job, arrives, or sends a message.

Can I set up recurring jobs?+

Yes. When you post a job you can set it to repeat weekly, biweekly, or monthly, and we'll automatically re-post it on schedule so the same lawn gets cared for all season. You can pause, resume, or cancel any recurring job anytime from the Recurring Jobs screen.

Can I tip my worker?+

Absolutely. After you pay for a completed job you can add a tip — choose a preset amount or enter your own. 100% of every tip goes straight to your worker with no platform fee taken out.

Can I pick a specific worker or re-book one?+

Yes. Browse Workers shows the active teens serving your zip code with their ratings, services, and reviews, so you can send a job directly to the one you want. Once you've worked with someone you like, "Book Again" re-hires them in one tap.

How do I know what's happening with my job?+

You get live status the whole way through — a worker checks in when they arrive, you can message them in-app to coordinate details (no phone numbers shared), and you'll see before-and-after photos plus the option to rate and review once the job is complete.

Can I get paid for my photos?+

Yes! Email your best Lawn Teens photos — teens at work, before-and-afters, or anything lawn-care related — to photos@lawnteens.com. If we feature your shot on our Instagram, we'll send you $5 in account credit. Just include your account email so we know where to send the reward.

What can teen workers do in the app?+

Workers get a dashboard with available leads in their area, a schedule with a map of upcoming jobs, an earnings view with payout history and Stripe onboarding, in-app messaging, and a profile editor for their bio, services, service zip codes, equipment, and availability. They can claim jobs, set quotes, check in on arrival, and upload completion photos — all from the phone.
